Was the president wise in placing total emphasis in things other than employment?
Yes, he acknowledged we have a crisis and gave countless billions to banks and in the form of a Stimulus Package. Navy, Marriage, and Overseas Deployments?
My fiance is determined to do an overseas deployment when she gets out of A School. She’s shooting for Japan or Italy if she gets can get them. I am trying to convince her to get a stateside station first to give me time to graduate from undergrad school and time for us to get married. Then I would like to follow her to wherever she goes.
She’s saying that the Navy won’t send married sailors overseas, and that I wouldn’t be able to follow her to Japan or some overseas stations anyways. I’m not sure why. Any help from married Navy couples?

The Navy does allow accompanied orders (married people) to certain overseas billets (Sigonella, Cicily, Rota, Spain, England, yada, yada, yada), Japan just doesn’t happen to be one of them. Reason being is the cost of living in Japan is atrocious. You both need to talk about this, …deployments in the Navy (or any branch of the military) are no joke. I made 1 overseas deployment and so many cruises without my wife in 21 years I lost count. And each and every one of them was miserable because she wasn’t with me.

I would really wait to marry her if I were you. She seems like she wants to do a tour overseas without you. Maybe she looks at an overseas tour as you look at grad school and maybe she wants to travel before she settles down. The Navy does have some housing overseas for families but it is probably limited for junior enlisted personnel. If you are not married, you can not live on-post without being married and while you can follow her you would have to live off base and at your own expense which would be very expensive.

Sit down and have an honest talk with her and see what she really wants out of your relationship. Do not waste time waiting if she does not feel that your relationship will go forward.

Well, you might want to wait.
I don’t know if it’s true for the Navy or not, but I know a couple in the Marines where the husband was deployed to Japan and she had to stay back home in the U.S.

She wouldn’t be deployed overseas if she moves to Japan she would be stationed overseas. She could be there for 3 years on orders. Deployed means that she is with a command and then that command goes to another location which could be overseas. If you are doing college and have several years before you graduate then doing an overseas assignment might be a good idea for your relationship and her career. You can see if you can both handle the time apart. She can work more on advancement, you can concentrate on college. You can’t be together stateside if you are not married unless you transfer colleges and plan to live outside the base on your own. Well you could do it but the cost will be yours and you can lose some credits when transferring colleges. They do send married personnel on overseas assignments but generally for the first orders are stateside. They do allow dependents to go with them if they are E4 or higher when they get the orders.

The other thing is she might not have a choice with the orders depending on what is available during A School for her Rating. All the orders could be on the West Coast, or the East Coast or overseas in various locations. It will depend on the needs at that time.

One Japan and Italy are NOT deployments they are duty stations BIG difference,

2: Marital status has zero impact on where you are sent. married personnel under the paygrade of E4 can be and ARE sent OCONUS.. and their FAMILIES MAY NOT JOIN THEM anyway. okay so in that matter she is correct.. you would not be able to go with her.. but that does NOT mean she won’t get sent anyway, especiually if she picks the orders herself.

Bottom line, if the relationship is strong enough it WILL survive an overseas duty assignment. so really, why are you freaking out? seems pretty selfish to me that you don’t want to encourage her to do something that will be a great experience professionallly and personally for her just because you don’t wanna be lonely at night.

no guarantees she would get stationed stateside anywhere near you .. or that she won’t be underway all the time anyway.

I am married and served in Japan. The Navy sure does send married people overseas ! The Navy does not care about your marital status when it comes to where your stationed.
The problem with being junior enlisted and living overseas when your married is the high cost of civillian housing. I doubt she will be able to afford living off base and the waiting list for onbase housing can be 6-12 months.

I fish a lake where there is a slot. Any Walleye between 18-24 inches must be released. These are breeding size. We eat 14-17 inchers, and ummmmmm they are good!!!!

Anything over the slot (24+) is an old fish. Keep for a trophy or let it go to reward it’s longevity.

Yeah just keep and eat anything as long as it follows the regs haha. I wouldn’t know how they taste though, I don’t eat fish, I just catch them. Then my dad, mom, and sis eats them. My dad and I never really caught any smaller walleye where we fish for them though, most of the ones we catch are 20-30", smallest I think we’ve caught is 18" from that place.

NW PA here and i fish the upper Allegheny River. Eyes have to be at least 15" to keep and no slot limits. 18" to 24" are the ones i keep . Anything bigger while still excellent table fare starts to get just a bit fishy unless highly seasoned. 15" is too small to me and the bigger fish need to be released to keep breeding for future stocks.

As far as the books go, it’s a close call between Prisoner of Azkaban and Deathly Hallows, but I choose the former – in my opinion it had the most unpredictable conclusion and introduced some brilliant new concepts and characters.

I very much detest the movies, perhaps the first two aside, as they were only somewhat irksome. I don’t have a favourite but I’d pick Philosopher’s Stone as it stuck to the book the most.

Hello! My son is going to be 5 in March and I want to come up with a great idea that we can use for his party. He is into drumming, sports, dinosaurs and Micheal Jackson… (I try NOT to go with movie themes like Finding Nemo or the Incredibles etc.) Last year HE wanted an Obama party (he’s funny like that!) so we want something that will top that.

Any ideas???

That’s so funny! My 4 year old and 22 month old are in love with Michael Jackson! lol

Well, you obviously can’t do all 4 of those themes. I would pick maybe 2 and then work with those. Maybe have sports decorations and MJ cake or even a cake shaped like a drum would be cool.

I would go with whatever he likes the most. Whichever one he is the biggest fan of, go with that.
